thyssenkrupp System Engineering has received a further major car body production order from Daimler. The engineering specialist is to supply highly automated body-in-white (BIW) lines for the production of the new Mercedes-Benz C Class. The order includes the planning, engineering, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the lines.

The BIW lines will be used to manufacture the bodies for a number of variants of the new C Class including saloon, station wagon, coupé, convertible and SUV. They will integrate more than 600 industrial robots.

"This order is a further important milestone in the close and longstanding partnership with our customer. In the automotive sector, today’s increasingly broad model ranges demand ever more flexible production processes. Our systems make it possible to produce different body variants – from compact models to sedans – flexibly and in short cycle times on one line."

Ingo Steinkrüger, CEO thyssenkrupp System Engineering

The German premium car manufacturer and thyssenkrupp have already collaborated on various car body production projects in the past, including the planning and manufacturing of production lines for the body of the smart fortwo in Hambach, Germany.
